GMID Water Leadership is a strong voice for water security in the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District (GMID) in northern Victoria.
The GMID is Victoria's food bowl. It covers 27,000km2, from Cohuna in the west to Cobram in the east. It produces a third of Victoria's milk & half of Australia's stonefruit like peaches and nectarines.
The GMID has contributed more water to the environment than any other region in the southern Murray-Darling Basin, with lasting legacy of reduced production, lost jobs and hardship in its communities.
With more than 2100 GL recovered so under the Murray Darling Basin Plan, GMID Water Leadership says no more water should be recovered from irrigators when the States and Commonwealth have other options.
